We found the best and most convenient cloud forest hiking opportunities in the Los Angeles Cloud Forest Reserve in San Ramón. It receives far fewer visitors than Monteverde and is much closer to San José. Los Angeles offers unspoiled quiet and mystical misty paths up a mountain slope. Arrange this as a day-trip or overnight excursion with the Villablanca Hotel, located at the edge of the forest. They’ll pick you up in San José and bring you back for about US $80, including breakfast, lunch, transportation and camaraderie. The knowledgeable hotel staff serve as guides.
